Poplar lumber is used for construction planks, plywood, panelling for steambath because of its low thermal conductivity.
Poplar wood has a white sapwood, maybe with some brown streaks. The heartwood color varies from greyish brown to light brown. The wood has a coarse surface, straight grains and relatively few defects. Poplar wood has small shrinkage and glues very well. In olden times, it was used for transports, signboards, saddle frames, interior wood lining. Nowadays, this wood is widely used for cabinets, veneer, furniture, pulp.
 
The wood is quite light in weight, soft, with a low compressing and torsional strength, low shock resistance and no odor when drying.
 
• Durability:
 
The heartwood is resistant to preservative, but not resistant to decay.
Kiln dried Poplar lumber has the moisture content of 8 - 12°C.
